The wireless device ecosystem is increasing in complexity, placing new demands on wireless service providers and OEMs. Increased competition and accelerated device replacement cycles further drive the need to strategically manage resources and investments.

The evolution of the wireless industry has led to increased adoption of Smartphones and Tablets in the consumer market, while embedded Notebooks and M2M applications are enabling efficiencies in business. In addition to hardware, the accessories and applications designed to work ubiquitously with devices and operating systems still require testing to ensure conformance with Carrier and OEM performance standards, as well as to ensure a positive and consistent user experience with the brand.

This not only necessitates the need for thorough and efficient testing of devices and software, it also creates a requirement to support the sales channels and end users differently with targeted product marketing and comprehensive training programs. DeviceWorks solutions support the lifecycle of a device, from the requirements planning stage, through to the end user experience.

DeviceWorks is a division of WirelessWorks Solutions Ltd.

Portfolio Consulting

Working in collaboration with the wireless service provider, the DeviceWorks team will review business objectives, market segmentation and organizational constraints in order to identify suitable product options. This includes identifying solutions for both the mainstream portfolio offering as well as niche products to support business verticals.

Requirements Planning

New network technologies, platforms and device functionality drive the need for the creation and refinement of technical specifications and test plans. The WirelessWorks team can engage to develop or modify specifications and test plans to support evolving requirements; ensuring consistency in certification, as well as to protect the integrity of the network and end user experience. Examples of requirements planning include:

  • Device Specification Development
  • Test Plan Development
  • Device Realization Processes Creation

Device Testing & Certification

As a turnkey solution or staff augmentation model, the DeviceWorks team provides device testing and certification services to support the efficient commercialization of new products.

The team consists of Mobile Device Test Engineers with expertise in RF conformance, wireless networks, platforms and value added services, as well as Program Managers who are skilled in overseeing multiple device launches simultaneously. Engaging on behalf of the Carrier or OEM, the team interacts with multiple stakeholders as required, and is focused on ensuring compliance, managing scope and mitigating risks for a successful launch.

Marketing Solutions

The vast number of features in mobile devices and wireless services offered by the Carrier allow for multiple end user needs to be met, however the abundance can also cause confusion and differentiation challenges. With the target market for the device or service in mind, the DeviceWorks team develops materials that focus on the value proposition, increasing the understanding of the solution within the sales channels, as well as focusing on relevant value for the target end user.

To support awareness, engagement and sell through, channel programs can be implemented in collaboration with customer facing resources that emphasize tangible benefits and ease of use. The combination of these efforts supports the achievement of projected sell through volumes or attach rates of the product or service and can be measured on a device or subscriber basis.

Training Solutions

To support the increased sophistication and breadth of wireless solutions, DeviceWorks develops customized training programs tailored to organizational needs, based on a training needs assessment.

The programs are scalable and leverage multiple mediums, allowing for a diverse audience of learners to be targeted. Programs can be developed for isolated products, services, platforms or technologies, or can be developed as a multi-module curriculum to deliver a consistent on-going message to the target audience.

Training programs are developed based on Adult Education learning principles and include the implementation of measurement tools to evaluate the impact and measure results. Examples of training programs include:

  • Product or Portfolio Training
  • Platform Training
  • Network Training
  • Wireless Sales Training

Lifecycle Management

Throughout the lifecycle of a device new requirements may be defined or there may be a need to address defects that arise post-launch. The methodology applied in device testing and certification is applied to maintenance releases, allowing for internal resources to be redeployed on more strategic priorities. To support ongoing customer satisfaction, WirelessWorks can execute benchmark testing to measure the performance of devices on the network or to capture data on network quality based on metrics that drive customer experience and satisfaction.
