Brightstar Expands North American Footprint with Acquisition of Ontario-based WirelessWorks

MIAMI, Oct. 16, 2015 – Brightstar Corp., the world’s leading mobile products, services and technology organization, today announced the acquisition of Ontario-based WirelessWorks, a specialized consulting and solutions provider for mobile network operators and device manufacturers.

Brightstar currently offers device protection solutions in Canada and, with this investment, Brightstar will establish its first permanent presence in the country to serve as a platform for introducing services across the entire device lifecycle for device manufacturers, mobile network operators, retailers and enterprises. Additionally, Brightstar is the largest specialized wireless distributor in the world, and will work to grow distribution channel reach for leading smartphone, tablet, and mobile accessory brands.

“The investment expands our customer profile and access into Canada’s fast growing mobile and technology industries, and at the same time, WirelessWorks’ mobile network and device engineering expertise will benefit Brightstar and open up new opportunities within the wireless ecosystem,” said Jaymin B. Patel, Brightstar President and CEO.

Established in 2010, WirelessWorks provides a wide range of engineering services, including mobile network planning and design, device test and certification. Additionally, the WirelessWorks team provides specialized consulting services and training solutions to customers in the telecom industry.

“With Brightstar’s global capabilities, we’re able to provide even greater value to our customers and help strengthen their competitive edge in the market,” said Mike Hortie, former CEO of WirelessWorks, and now President of Brightstar Canada. “The WirelessWorks team has a deep understanding of the Canadian telecom market and we are excited that this, combined with our longstanding relationships with key stakeholders in the industry, will provide the platform for the delivery of Brightstar products and services in Canada.”

WirelessWorks will retain all employees, and will continue operating from its headquarters in Markham, Ontario. The company will be consolidated into Brightstar’s U.S. & Canada region as Brightstar Canada, which may be reached at 905-944-9999.
